Round TWO of the Petillo Aluminum Double “L” Neck made in 1988 for Jersey Shore music veteran Chris Spiwak.
This is after the time when my Dad (Dr. Phil Petillo) designed the Kramer Aluminum Tuning Fork neck and consulted for Travis Bean with the layout/construction of their models as well. This Bass neck my Dad made is a five piece lamination of French walnut, aircraft alloy aluminum and Brazilian rosewood center. His hand cut inlay work is amazing to me. He outlined the abalone flowers in aluminum and the Petillo logo in 24k gold dust. The body is made of two piece French walnut. The front of the body layout shows a Nigerian ebony thumb rest, pickup covers, bridge frame and all the ebony parts are inlaid with abalone and mother of pearl strips. In between the pickup covers is a flower cluster inlay. The volume and tone knobs are hand lathed walnut with abalone dot inlays on top. The mini black toggle switch has a small black washer with an abalone inlay dot outlining the nut. The pickups are custom made Petillo humbuckers with large adjustable pole pieces. The fingerboard is a piece of Nigerian ebony with mother of pearl tulip designs and “Petillo Presicion Frets” aka triangle/pyramid shaped frets. The bridge is machined from a solid block of brass. The marquetry Dogwood flowers on the back of the bass are made of natural and colored veneers. The aluminum strap button on the back of the bass has a snail shell dot inlay recessed inside. Take a look at all the pics. This bass was 100% made by hand, by my Dad (Dr. Phil Petillo).
