Check out this finish restoration on Michael Post’s gold top Les Paul. The finish had pick scratches in it and they were deep to the touch. I hand buffed the lacquer to remove the marks. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very delicate and the majority of it has been the dominant finish used by U.S. musical instrument factories for steel string guitars, archtop guitars, banjos and mandolins since the 1920’s. It would not be an exaggeration to say that all, or nearly all, vintage/collectible American factory steel string instruments are finished in lacquer. Take a look at all the before and after pics! Below is a little bio on Michael’s band and recent collaborations: Mike Post has a band called The Powertones – with partner Gladys Bryant on Bass. He recently played with Andy Burton, the keyboardist from Ian Hunter, who has also played on keys with Little Steven, John Mayer and Cyndi Lauper. Mike has also performed with Dennis Diken, a renowned drummer who has played with The Smithereens, Dave Davies, Ronnie Spector, Darlene Love and The Monkees. Mike’s musical roots are grown in rocking Americana with a mix of 60’s/70’s pop and a touch of Western Swing for good measure.
